Irom Sharmila sent to 15 days in judicial custody
Civil rights activist Irom Sharmila was arrested again on Friday by Manipur police under fresh charges of attempting suicide, only two days after being released from jail, where she was being held under the same charge. Sharmila was remanded to 15 days in judicial custody by a local court. Earlier in the day, police forcibly evicted the civil rights activist from a makeshift camp she set up to continue her 14-year fast demanding the repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

Bharatiya Janata Party tells its MPs not to go on Monsanto sponsored trip
As the government decides on field trials for genetically modified seeds, Bharatiya Janata Party has asked three of its parliamentarians to cancel their trips to an agricultural summit in Iowa in the US. The trip is sponsored by Monsanto, which is the world's largest producer of genetically modified seeds. The party's decision was made amidst pressure from Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an advisory body linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh that consistently opposed GM seeds.

Apex court questions government's stand on lack of Leader of Opposition
The Supreme Court on Friday said that a Leader of Opposition was required in the Lok Sabha to make key appointments such as the Lokpal anti-corruption ombudsman. "The Leader of the Opposition also conveys the voice of the House," said the bench. "It represents a view different from that of the government. If there is no Leader of Opposition, the decision would not be objective. Ultimately, a vacuum remains." The Centre has been given four weeks by the court to review the Speaker's decision on not appointing a Leader of Opposition.

Belgium native Younes Abaaound has been declared the youngest fighter for Sunni extremist group, Islamic State. The group has been waging war in Syria and Iraq against local governments and international forces. According to British experts, the young boy travelled with his elder brother Abdelhamid to Syria early in 2014, where they joined the battle against Syrian forces.

'Love Jihad' to be discussed in UP BJP meet on Saturday
The Uttar Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party will include 'love jihad' and conversion of Hindus on their main agenda at the state executive committee meet on Saturday. The meeting will also frame the party's strategy for the 2017 assembly elections in the state. BJP President Amit Shah will chair the meet scheduled, to be held in Mathura.
